The dot SE country-code domain was started in 1986 and assigned to Sweden. During the first years after its introduction, the registration process was really restrictive, so a very limited number of domain names were secured. Persons were permitted to book only one domain under .PP.SE (“pp” stands for “private person”). Local presence was a must, i.e. only Swedish persons, business entities and organizations were able to obtain a dot SE domain. In 2003, however, the registration process was loosened considerably and, consequently, the number of .SE domains has been growing each year.
